The Story Polis

What are the stories that need to be told and need to be heard? What makes them unique? How we tell stories? Could we become more creative and constructive with our memories? How to become active listeners and listen effectively to the stories of others? What the stories of strangers have to teach us about ourselves?

The Story Polis is a storytelling workshop that wishes to form the team behind the STORY RADIO.

Through weekly meetings the Story Polis ensemble will set up and launch the STORY RADIO show*** and a series of monthly podcasts dedicated to stories.

Every podcast will be dedicated to a specific theme and it will feature stories from the participants and the SFF Audio Archive, as well as interviews and debates on the theme of the month.

The workshop is open to everyone who loves telling and listening to stories, and it aspires to promote oral storytelling. We hope to help participants acknowledge the importance of their stories, train their storytelling skills, explore personal and fictitious realities, and form stories out of their memories and imagination.

We shall explore basic elements of story-dramaturgy: beginning-middle-end, anticipation, change, tension, conflict, transformation, sympathy, contradictions, character inner motivations, line of emotions and relations, rhythm and timing.

Finally, each participant will be responsible for recording one story or arranging an interview on the theme of the month.

“Story is the umbilical cord that connects us to the past, present, and future … Story is a relationship between the teller and the listener, a responsibility. … Story is an affirmation of our ties to one another.”

― Terry Tempest Williams, Pieces of White Shell
